At the center of the Norse universe sits Yggdrasil, the mighty world tree. The nine worlds that make up the cosmos are all tucked into its roots and branches.
Yggdrasil nourishes these worlds, connects them, and also holds them apart and maintains the order of things. As such, Yggdrasil is a symbol of nature and the connectedness of all things.
Yggdrasil is also associated with the runes and fate. The Norns, the Norse fates, sit at the base of Yggdrasil and write the destiny of men into its bark with the runes.
It was Odin who revealed the nature of the runes, as both an alphabet and a magical toolkit, to Odin who then shared that information with mankind.
